Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb delivered the key scores in Dallas’ 37-20 victory over Washington at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys improved to 1-1 after losing 28-20 to the New York Giants in their opener. The team operates out of The Star in Frisco.
Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards. His 3-yard reception opened the scoring, and his 24-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter finished it. That final score gave Prescott 249 career touchdown passes, surpassing Tony Romo’s Cowboys record of 248, according to The Associated Press. Lamb has caught 37 touchdown passes from Prescott, the most by any of Prescott’s receivers, and gave him the record ball after the play. “That made me emotional,” Prescott said, according to the AP.
Prescott’s final statistics included 26 completions, 279 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions. Jake Ferguson caught the other two touchdowns, from 10 and 12 yards. Dallas also got three field goals from Brandon Aubrey, who connected from 25, 44 and 60 yards, and added all four extra points for 13 total points.
The Cowboys converted seven of 11 third downs and avoided turnovers. Early in the third quarter, rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham forced a fumble on a screen pass, and Dee Winters recovered inside Washington’s 20-yard line. Ferguson scored two plays later for a 27-13 lead. Washington had more total yards, 389-332, more rushing yards, 182, and held the ball for 31:29. Quarterback Jayden Daniels left with a dislocated left elbow, and Coach Dan Quinn said imaging showed no fracture. Marcus Mariota finished the game. Dallas next faces Baltimore on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 3:25 p.m. Central at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
