Families of children with special needs can trick-or-treat inside the Prosper Community Library on Monday evening, Oct. 26, at a free event the town has set aside for them.
The Special Needs Halloween runs from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library, 200 S. Main St. Library staff will hand out non-food items instead of candy on both floors of the building, according to the event listing.
The library's elevator is available so children who use wheelchairs can reach the second floor, and costumes are optional. The town's calendar lists the event for all ages. Questions can go to the library at 972-569-1185.
Part of a small slate of adaptive programs
The Halloween night is one of several programs the library's fall schedule groups under programs for children with special needs.
- Sensory Santa and Christmas Shoppe: Set for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Prosper Town Hall. The library describes it as a holiday event for children it calls Prosper Superstars and their families, with a sensory-friendly photo session with Santa Claus and early access to a limited kids' Christmas Shoppe.
- disABILITY social: A monthly gathering at the library for adults 18 and older with autism or an intellectual disability, built around games meant to spark conversation and practice social skills. The fall schedule listed sessions in August, September and October.
