Prosper ISD has released its proposed attendance boundaries for Watkins Middle School, the district's eighth middle school, which opens in fall 2027. Families have until a final board vote on Nov. 16 to weigh in, including at an in-person meeting next week.

The school, named Dr. Drew and Kristen Watkins Middle School, is being built northwest of the Legacy Gardens neighborhood at Parvin Road and Legacy Drive. It is expected to open with about 821 students and is meant to relieve crowding at Moseley and Reynolds middle schools, according to a district newsletter sent to families this week.

Who would move

Under the recommendation presented to trustees on Oct. 19, the change would follow elementary school lines:

  • Thomson Elementary: all students would go on to Watkins Middle School and Prosper High School.
  • Hall Elementary: all students would go on to Watkins Middle School and Prosper High School.
  • Smothermon Elementary: students would go to either Watkins or Moseley Middle School, and to either Prosper High or Richland High, depending on where they live.

The district says the board heard the plan as an informational presentation only. It is a recommendation, not a final decision.

How to weigh in

Families can submit comments through an online feedback form linked in the district's newsletter. Prosper ISD says every comment will be reviewed by administrators and trustees.

An in-person meeting is set for 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Moseley Middle School. The district says it will present the recommendation in detail, and families can then talk one-on-one with board members and district leaders.

"We recognize that this can be a difficult topic for many families, and we want to assure you that we approach this task with great care and consideration," the district wrote.

What happens next

District leaders will keep reviewing the proposal from Oct. 29 through Nov. 13. A final recommendation goes to the board for a vote at its Nov. 16 meeting, and the district plans to announce the approved boundaries the next day.

The new boundaries are the second round of changes tied to new campuses in two years. Jim Bridges Middle School opened this fall to relieve Rogers and Jones middle schools, and Rucker Elementary also opened, the district said.
