Prosper's football story is no longer about one team.

Prosper High School enters 2026 ranked No. 12 in Texas and No. 28 nationally by On3. Walnut Grove, the town's newer program, is ranked No. 53 in the state. Both will play 10 regular-season games, and at some point in the season they play each other.

Two demanding schedules

Prosper opens Friday, Aug. 28 on the road at Rockwall, ranked No. 37, then travels to North Forney, ranked No. 31, on Sept. 4. On Sept. 11 the Eagles host Westlake, ranked No. 15 in the state. Allen, ranked No. 5, is also on the schedule.

Walnut Grove opens at home Aug. 28 against Lake Ridge, ranked No. 99, then hosts Hebron, ranked No. 50, on Thursday, Sept. 3, before traveling to Reedy, ranked No. 75, on Sept. 10. The Wildcats also face Prosper and Allen.

What this says about the town

Rapid growth splits attendance, rosters and loyalties, and it usually costs a program something in the transition. Prosper has instead ended up with two teams ranked inside the state's top 60, drawing from the same community and playing largely overlapping schedules.

The season opens Friday, Aug. 28. Rankings are On3's preseason Texas rankings.
