The Prosper Economic Development Corporation has confirmed that Costco has selected Prosper, Texas, as the site for its newest warehouse club. This development marks the first Costco location in the city, situated at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 1385 and U.S. Highway 380.
The announcement follows months of local speculation regarding the retailer's expansion in North Texas. Officials describe the new facility as a significant addition to the community, noting that it will introduce new employment opportunities and generate substantial economic benefits for the area.
Prosper Mayor David Bristol expressed gratitude to the Costco team, town staff, and the Prosper EDC for their efforts in securing the partnership. He stated that the town council and residents are eager to welcome the retailer, viewing it as a valuable partner for local economic growth.
Jordan Simms, president of the Prosper Economic Development Corporation, emphasized that attracting high-quality retailers aligns with the organization's mission. Simms noted that the store will bring additional sales and property tax revenues, which will help fund town infrastructure and the local school district while maintaining existing standards.
The new warehouse is expected to offer a wide variety of merchandise, including groceries, electronics, and furniture, at competitive prices. Its location at the FM 1385 and US 380 intersection is intended to draw customers from across the region.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the project is tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2023. Specific details regarding the store's opening date or the exact number of jobs to be created have not yet been provided.
