Prosper's flood-watch window now extends into Friday morning, making this a good time to check how a household will receive warnings after dark or away from home.
The National Weather Service watch runs from 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, until 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2. All times are Central Daylight Time. The Fort Worth forecast office issued the updated notice at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 29.
It includes Collin and Denton counties and forecasts 2 to 4 inches of rain across the watch area, with localized amounts of 4 to 6 inches. Slow-moving storms could send runoff into creeks, streams and low-lying locations. Low-water crossings may flood, according to the alert.
Prosper's severe-weather guidance points residents to Rave Alerts, a free opt-in service that can send emergency information to cellphones, email and landlines. Its available notifications include flood and flash-flood warnings.
The town recommends multiple ways of receiving information rather than relying on outdoor sirens alone. Keep a phone charged and check alert settings before conditions deteriorate. Prosper's resource page also links separate outage information for Oncor and CoServ customers; residents should use the provider serving their address if they need to report a loss of electricity.
