Astros Rally for Four Runs in Ninth to Beat Angels 6-4

Late Inning Surge

The Houston Astros overcame an early two-run deficit by capitalizing on defensive miscues in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring four unanswered runs to secure a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. The win improves Houston’s record to 53-55, while the Angels fall to 42-65.

Early Angels Lead

Los Angeles jumped out to an early advantage in the top of the first inning. With Trout on third, Neto scored on a sacrifice fly by Schanuel to center field. Grissom followed with a single to right, driving in Soler to make it 2-0.

The Angels extended their lead in the third inning. Grissom launched a home run to left-center field, measuring 395 feet, to push the margin to 3-0. Lowe added another run later in the frame when Adell doubled to right field, making the score 4-0.

Houston began its comeback in the fourth inning when Trammell homered to center field (412 feet), cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Astros continued to chip away at the lead in the eighth inning. Alvarez singled to left field, allowing Peña to score and bring the total to 4-2.

Ninth Inning Drama

The game changed dramatically in the bottom of the ninth. Spence grounded into a fielder's choice to second base, but Trammell scored on an error. Allen reached second on a fielding error by Angels second baseman Grissom and advanced to third on another error.

Paredes was hit by pitch, driving in Spence to tie the game at 4-4. The Angels challenged the call, but it was upheld. Alvarez then scored on a walk by Wade Jr., giving Houston a 5-4 lead. That challenge was also upheld.

The final run came when Alvarez scored as Altuve reached first on a fielding error by pitcher Sam Bachman. Smith advanced to second and Paredes to third during the play, sealing the victory for Houston.

Pitching Performances

Cristian Javier earned the win for the Astros, pitching five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed three hits and no walks. Josh Hader recorded his 13th save with a perfect ninth inning despite issuing two walks.

For the Angels, Walbert Urena pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts. Chase Silseth and Ryan Zeferjahn each pitched one inning, both earning holds. Jose Fermin took the loss after pitching 0.1 innings, allowing one hit and one earned run.

Sam Bachman entered in relief and pitched 0.2 scoreless innings before the final error occurred. The game was played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, with an attendance of 30,121.
