Astros beat Yankees 5-1 as Walker, Peña hit home runs

Astros secure 5-1 victory

The Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees 5-1 on Thursday, August 27, at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. The win improved Houston's record to 67-67, while New York fell to 75-58. Attendance at the venue reached 41,203 fans.

Scoring unfolds

The Astros took an early lead in the third inning when Luis Rengifo singled to right field, allowing Jeremy Peña to score. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth inning, when Christian Walker hit a home run to right center field that traveled 369 feet. This two-run shot brought in Alec Burleson and gave Houston a 3-0 advantage.

Shortly after, Aaron Judge hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Matt Olson to score and making it 3-1.

In the seventh inning, Jeremy Peña extended the lead with a solo home run to left field that went 382 feet. Gerrit Cole took the loss for the Yankees, pitching six innings. He allowed six hits and three earned runs while walking one batter and striking out five. Yerry De los Santos pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run with one strikeout. Justin Topa finished the game, pitching two innings with two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
