Late Surge Decides Tight Contest

The Oakland Athletics defeated the Houston Astros 7-6 on Sunday at Daikin Park, snapping a six-run deficit with a fifth-inning rally and a go-ahead home run in the seventh. The game featured four total home runs and saw the away team overcome a significant early disadvantage to secure the victory. Attendance was recorded at 30,708 for the matchup.

Astros Build Early Lead

Houston took control early in the first inning. Paredes hit a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Peña to score, followed immediately by Altuve hitting a 370-foot home run to left center that drove in Alvarez. The Astros extended their lead in the second inning when Smith scored on a walk by Altuve.

In the fourth inning, Paredes added a 350-foot home run to left field that brought Peña home, giving Houston a 6-0 advantage heading into the break.

Athletics Rally and Win

Oakland responded in the fifth inning with a three-run homer by Serven to left center (402 feet) that scored Walton and Hernaiz. Butler followed with a double to left that brought in Bolte, and White singled to right to score Gelof and Butler, tying the game at 6-6.

The decisive moment came in the top of the seventh when Muncy hit a 409-foot home run to center field, giving the Athletics the 7-6 lead. The Astros failed to score in the bottom of the seventh, leaving the game tied at 6-6 before Muncy's blast.

Pitching and Records

Jack Perkins earned the win for Oakland, pitching five innings while allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out six batters. He recorded three walks. Hogan Harris secured the save with one scoreless inning and two strikeouts.

For Houston, Cristian Javier started, pitching four innings with eight strikeouts, four hits, and three earned runs allowed. He issued two walks. Steven Okert took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing one hit and one earned run.

The Athletics improved to 51-80, while the Astros fell to 65-66.
