Young’s Dominant Outing
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young established control early and maintained it through the majority of the contest, earning the win with a stellar outing. Young pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run while walking one batter and striking out seven.
His performance was the cornerstone of the Orioles' success, as he kept the Houston Astros' offense in check for most of the game.
Young’s efficiency allowed the Orioles' bullpen to preserve the lead. Rico Garcia followed with one inning of work, giving up two hits and one earned run while recording one strikeout. Grant Wolfram closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, retiring all three batters he faced to secure the save, his first of the season.
Scoring Sequences
The Orioles built their advantage in the third inning. After Henderson singled to left field, bringing Holliday home, Henderson executed a daring steal of home to extend the lead. The scoring continued in the fifth inning when Taveras singled to left, driving in two runs as Alonso and Ward crossed the plate, with Huff advancing to second base.
Mayo added to the margin in the sixth by homering to right center, a shot measuring 384 feet.
The Astros managed to get on the board in the third inning when Alvarez doubled to right field, allowing Altuve to score. However, Baltimore’s lead proved insurmountable until the eighth inning, when Altuve hit a home run to left field, measuring 353 feet, to narrow the deficit to 5-2.
