Prosper Richland secured a 56-37 win against Frisco Heritage on Friday, moving its varsity record to 2-0 in only its second season of existence. Senior Donovan Ross was recognized as Star Local Media’s Athlete of the Week for his performance across offense, defense, and special teams during that contest.
Ross caught eight passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns on offense. He also recorded five tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a pass break-up on defense. On special teams, he returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown and successfully kicked four extra points.
The victory places Richland within one win of matching its total from the previous season. Ross attributed the team’s progress to improved chemistry and trust among players who are focused on a shared objective.
Outside of football, Ross competes in soccer, which he says enhances his conditioning, footwork, and spatial awareness for gridiron play. He has participated in both sports since age four, driven by a long-standing desire to compete.
Ross cited watching his older brother’s high school games as an early influence, noting that seeing players like Fred Warner and Chris Olave set a performance standard he strives to meet. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, biking, and spending time with family.
