A football player from Texas Christian University was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed following an alleged incident involving a teammate. The altercation took place on August 13 in the locker room, where former TCU safety Jacob Fields reportedly struck wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the forehead and kicked him in the head.
Ezukanma suffered a brain bleed, a concussion, and a strained AC joint as a result of the attack.
Fields has been removed from the team and has turned himself in to law enforcement. An arrest affidavit revealed that Ezukanma believed the incident was motivated by competition during practice, as Fields felt he was not performing as well. After the altercation, Ezukanma received text messages from Fields expressing remorse and offering to pay for his hospital expenses.
Ezukanma's family reported that he is on the mend and looks forward to returning to play once he receives medical clearance. His sister emphasized the need for accountability in this matter. Meanwhile, TCU is dealing with the incident while also concentrating on the team's performance, especially after their recent loss.
TCU head coach Sonny Dykes expressed confidence in the players' ability to manage distractions. A representative for Fields mentioned that he is working with legal counsel and will allow the legal process to proceed, indicating that there will be an opportunity to present the facts regarding the situation.
