Head Coach Neal Brown has expressed serious worries about the North Texas Mean Green's offensive line as preparations for the 2026 season intensify. Following a recent practice, Brown remarked on the team's current state, indicating that they are far from meeting the necessary standards. He pointed out issues such as a lack of toughness in the run game and inadequate pad level.

The offensive line was instrumental in the team's success during the 2025 season, helping North Texas secure the most rushing touchdowns in the country with a total of 49, while also being recognized for having the top-scoring offense.

Notable players from last season included offensive guard Gabe Blair, who earned a First Team All-American Conference selection and was ranked as the third-best guard by Pro Football Focus.

With all five starting offensive linemen having departed, the team faces the challenge of rebuilding this crucial unit. Brown highlighted that just two players, senior Johnny Williams IV and fifth-year Chandler Strong, have demonstrated potential during fall camp, with Strong being noted as a standout performer.

Brown emphasized the need to find the right mix of players, stating that the team cannot function effectively with only two offensive linemen. All positions on the line are open for competition as the coaching staff aims to create a strong group before their first game on September 5.

The responsibility now lies with Brown, offensive line coach Matt Mattox, and run game coordinator Mike Bloesch to enhance the offensive line's capabilities before the season kicks off. Brown cautioned that if the offensive line's performance does not improve, the team will face significant challenges.
