Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway has been ruled out of the team’s Week 2 matchup with Prairie View A&M because of a high-ankle sprain suffered in the season opener against Auburn. Nate Bennett will take over at quarterback and make his first start.
Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Baylor’s 17-16 loss to Auburn. He remained in the game after sustaining the injury.
Baylor scored a touchdown in the final seconds against Auburn, then tried to win with a two-point conversion instead of sending the game to overtime. The attempt was unsuccessful. The source said it was not clear whether Lagway’s injury affected that decision, and Baylor coach Dave Aranda has not indicated that it did.
Aranda had previously described Lagway’s status as day-to-day, while a source said the quarterback had been trying to play through the injury. Lagway was later ruled out. Sports.yahoo.com reported the quarterback’s absence and Bennett’s upcoming start.
