Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is expected to miss Saturday’s game against Prairie View A&M because of an ankle injury suffered in the Bears’ season-opening loss to Auburn, according to a report from college football insider Pete Thamel. It remains uncertain whether Lagway will dress or be available in any capacity, and the report said he is not expected to be sidelined long term.
Nate Bennett is expected to make his first career start for Baylor. Bennett has been with the program for several years and previously appeared briefly as a backup, according to the report.
Lagway played through the injury against Auburn and finished with 333 passing yards and two touchdowns. Baylor lost after a potential game-winning two-point conversion attempt came up short.
The Auburn game was not a Big 12 contest. Baylor is scheduled to play Louisiana Tech after Prairie View A&M, and the team is not set to face a currently ranked opponent until a mid-November matchup with BYU. The closing portion of the schedule includes games against BYU, Texas Tech and Houston.
Lagway transferred to Baylor after two seasons at Florida. During the 2025 season, he went 4-8 as a starter and threw five interceptions in a game against LSU, but he also led Florida to a victory over Texas. Further details about his availability were not provided.
