As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has expressed his satisfaction with the retention of quarterback Joe Milton on the practice squad. Following the team's final roster cuts, Schottenheimer shared his enthusiasm, stating that he is "elated" to have Milton back, noting, "We’re thrilled to get him back.
He’s gonna continue to get better," according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Milton, who was drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, showcased his strong arm during the preseason, leading to speculation about his potential in the league. Although he played in only one regular-season game with the Patriots, his time with the Cowboys has seen him gain more experience, participating in four games without a start.
Despite being waived at the end of August, Milton chose to remain with the Cowboys, signing back onto the practice squad. His decision reflects a positive outlook on his development within the organization and the coaching staff's support.
