The Dallas Cowboys have made the decision to release cornerback Josh Butler as part of their roster cuts to finalize the 53-man team. Butler, who had been with the Cowboys for three years, faced a challenging journey to reach this point, having previously played in two spring football leagues before joining the team in 2023.
Following his release, Butler took to social media to express his gratitude and highlight his performance during his time with the Cowboys. He stated, "Ayee at the end of the day! My entire time with the Cowboys I've never given up a single touchdown preseason or regular season or a pass over 20 yards.
Did the impossible rekindling my football career after 4 years out of college. Made history! & so much more. I'm super grateful for my hometown team love yall forever."
During the preseason, Butler demonstrated his skills with six tackles and was recognized as a strong defender throughout the three-game stretch in August. Over the last three seasons, he participated in six games, all during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, accumulating 26 tackles, five pass deflections, and one sack.
Notably, he did not play in 2023 due to an ACL injury that limited his participation in the following season.
