The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly added former Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson as they adjust their backfield after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that requires surgery and will end his season. Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson first reported the move on Tuesday.
Goodson spent three seasons with Indianapolis, appearing in 33 games and recording 54 rushing attempts for 264 yards, an average of 4.9 yards per carry. He also played 304 special-teams snaps for the Colts across the previous two seasons, an area in which Dallas will lose Davis’ contributions.
The 25-year-old Goodson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Green Bay in 2023. After the Packers released him, Indianapolis added him. The Colts later let him go, and he joined Atlanta for training camp. The Falcons also released him, after which he cleared waivers and returned to Atlanta’s practice squad before the Cowboys signed him.
Wilson reported that Goodson finished his Iowa career with 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns. The former All-Big Ten selection is listed at 5 feet, 9 inches and 200 pounds, and Wilson said he had run the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds.
Dallas elevated Emari Demercado to the No. 2 running back role for its game against the Giants. Demercado received two carries for seven yards behind starter Javonte Williams, while the Cowboys had 18 rushing attempts overall. Williams accounted for 12 of those carries and also caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown.
