The Houston Texans are considering strengthening their pass rush by evaluating defensive end Devean Deal. This interest comes as the team navigates multiple injuries affecting their defensive lineup, particularly behind their starting edge rushers, Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.
On August 22, KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson reported that the Texans worked out Deal, an undrafted free agent from TCU who previously spent time with the Seattle Seahawks. During his college career, Deal recorded 176 total tackles and 13.0 sacks over two years at TCU and three seasons at Tulane.
While the Texans recently signed linebacker Caleb Johnson, they are exploring additional options to bolster their roster. The team is currently dealing with several injury concerns, including the absences of Jadeveon Clowney and Logan Hall, although the reasons for their absence have not been clarified.
Deal's availability stems from the Seahawks needing to create roster space after signing two undrafted rookie receivers, leading to his release. The Texans, facing similar roster management challenges, have also signed veteran receivers Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones, placing linebacker K.C. Ossai on injured reserve to make room.
