Jerry Jones said the Cowboys could make a financially backed move to improve the roster after Dallas defeated Washington 37-20. The owner and general manager said his optimism followed the victory, while also identifying improved rushing production as an area the team needs to address.
Jones praised defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark as foundational pieces in the middle of the defense. He described Williams as among the league's top players and said Clark has maintained a high level of consistency. Jones also said Williams is not dealing with an injury after appearing slow to rise following a couple of plays against Washington.
Dallas is preparing for its Week 3 matchup with Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro. The game is scheduled for Maracanã Stadium, where Flamengo recently played. Concerns about the condition of the field have circulated on social media, and some Flamengo players previously expressed displeasure with the playing surface.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the Cowboys' operations staff has communicated with the league about the field. He said he trusts the league to make the appropriate decision and bring the surface to the required standard, adding that he does not have concerns about it.
The Cowboys' passing attack produced 266 yards against Washington, while the team finished with 66 rushing yards. Javonte Williams ran 12 times for 30 yards. Schottenheimer said Dallas entered the game intending to spread out Washington's defense and throw the ball, although he did not expect the rushing total to be as low as 66 yards.
