Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte spoke to the media for the first time since being traded from the New England Patriots to the Houston Texans. This press conference occurred one week after the trade, where Boutte discussed his initial impressions of the Texans and his departure from New England after three seasons.
Boutte had requested a trade during the offseason, citing the arrival of new players as a key factor in his decision. He noted, "They did pay two guys to come in and do that job. Sadly, it is the way it is.
Being that it's a contract year for me, I sought a bigger role." The two players he referred to are Romeo Doubs, who signed a four-year, $68 million contract, and A.J. Brown, who was acquired from Philadelphia using draft picks.
These acquisitions significantly altered the dynamics of the Patriots' wide receiver corps, impacting Boutte's position within the team. Despite a productive 2024 season where he recorded 42 receptions for 719 yards and seven touchdowns, Boutte found himself as the fourth wide receiver during training camp, trailing Doubs, Brown, and DeMario Douglas.
Head coach Mike Vrabel indicated that Boutte might have been inactive for games this season, a statement Boutte chose not to take personally.
