SMU has moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll after improving to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The rise followed a 1-0 victory over NC State, the Mustangs’ fifth shutout this season.

Panozzo, a senior from Sarasota, Florida, scored the only goal and captained SMU’s defense in its ACC home opener. The defense limited NC State to eight shots, with two on target. The conference announced Tuesday that Panozzo was selected as its co-defensive player of the week, sharing the honor with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly.

It was Panozzo’s first ACC weekly award and SMU’s second conference weekly honor this season. The Mustangs are scheduled to return to ACC play Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
