The New England Patriots have made a significant roster move by trading wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Patriots received Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028.
Boutte, who is 24 years old and in the final year of his rookie contract, found himself in a crowded receiving corps after the Patriots acquired AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Other receivers in the mix included DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel explained that the trade provided a better opportunity for Boutte, who might have faced limited playing time in New England. He noted that without injuries, Boutte would likely have been inactive for games, particularly as he was not contributing on special teams.
"That was one place where we do have some depth, and I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing," Vrabel stated.
Last season, Boutte played in 14 games, recording 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. Vrabel expressed that trading Boutte was a difficult decision due to his positive attitude and growth as a player. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging Boutte's contributions and maturity throughout his time with the team.
