TCU has dismissed safety Jacob Fields from its football team, just under two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a physical altercation with a teammate that occurred on August 13, as reported in the TCU crime and fire log.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram described the incident as an aggravated assault. Sources revealed that Fields was in a confrontation with an offensive player and had previously felt threatened by his teammates through insults and acts such as being spat on. Before the incident, Fields had reached out to the coaching staff multiple times about rising tensions but received no feedback.
Fields joined TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason and was anticipated to start as free safety. In 2025, he earned recognition as the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year, having played all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. He led his former team with 92 tackles and achieved three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.
Additionally, he had 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season. More information regarding the incident and its consequences has yet to be disclosed.
