The Houston Texans are bringing George Odum back from their practice squad for the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a report cited by KPRC 2 reporter Aaron Wilson on Sept. 19. The move is Odum’s second practice squad elevation this season.

Odum, a ninth-year NFL veteran, has earned first-team All-Pro recognition with the Indianapolis Colts and second-team honors with the San Francisco 49ers. His career totals include 209 tackles, four forced fumbles, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He has started 12 of 109 games.

The Texans have Caleb Bullock and Reed Blankenship available at safety, but the team is adding Odum for his special teams experience. He played 71% of Houston’s special teams snaps against the Buffalo Bills and recorded a tackle in that game, a 36-31 Texans loss.

Pro Football Focus ranked Odum 26th among 29 Houston special teams players for the Buffalo game. The source also reported that coach DeMeco Ryans praised Odum’s preseason playmaking while players were competing for roster spots.

Because this is Odum’s second elevation, Houston can call him up from the practice squad one more time. After that, the Texans would need to add him to the 53-man roster or use another option. Houston’s Week 3 game is against the Colts, which could provide another opportunity for Odum’s final practice squad elevation.
