A temporary restraining order issued by a Dallas court enables 18 college football players, including SMU free safety Ahmaad Moses, to compete for a fifth year of eligibility in the 2026 season.
This decision comes shortly before the college football season begins and follows the Wisne v. NCAA ruling from July 31, which initially allowed athletes who graduated high school in 2022 to extend their eligibility. The NCAA's appeal of that ruling has been blocked by this new injunction.
Ahmaad Moses, recognized as a First Team All-ACC selection in 2025, has played 54 games and started 19 during his time with the Mustangs. He played a key role in SMU’s achievements, including a conference title in 2023 and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. Last season, he led the team with 104 tackles and five interceptions.
Moses’ notable performance against Miami (FL), where he achieved a career-high 15 tackles and two interceptions, was pivotal in securing an overtime win. After declaring for the NFL Draft post-2025 season, he faced challenges due to a herniated disk that required spinal fusion surgery. This injury has affected his prospects, allowing him to qualify for the return under the ACC's new eligibility guidelines.
He has been participating in fall camp with SMU and is anticipated to play in the season opener against Florida State on September 7, barring any NCAA appeal. The list of players granted a TRO also includes Jordan Hudson (SMU, WR), D’Mon Brinson (UConn, CB), and Ethan Sanchez (Houston, K).
