The Houston Texans are adding Dare Ogunbowale to their 53-man roster before Week 4, bringing the running back back to Houston after a short stint with the Las Vegas Raiders. Sports Illustrated reported the signing, citing Houston Chronicle reporter Jonathan M. Alexander.

Ogunbowale spent four seasons with the Texans from 2022 through 2025 and played in more than 60 games. His Houston rushing totals included 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns, while much of his role came on special teams.

The addition is not expected to change the top of Houston’s running back rotation. David Montgomery and Woody Marks are positioned to handle most of the offensive snaps, while British Brooks could also remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. The signing brings the group to four running backs.

One possible reason for the move is that Houston could be preparing for an injury within the position group. The Texans’ player health information for Week 4 was not expected to be known until after Wednesday’s practice. Another possibility is that the team wanted additional depth and a player with special teams experience.

Ogunbowale served as a Texans captain last season and has received praise from coach DeMeco Ryans. During his previous four seasons with Houston, he logged more than 1,000 special teams snaps. The Texans are scheduled to return home in Week 4 to face the Dallas Cowboys.
