The Texas A&M Aggies are grappling with significant setbacks just before their 2026 season begins against Missouri State. Head coach Mike Elko confirmed that running back Tiger Riden Jr. and defensive tackle Chace Sims have both sustained injuries that will keep them out for the entire season.

Riden, who participated in five games last season as a true freshman, accumulated 11 carries for 45 yards and one touchdown. Conversely, Sims did not see any game action during his freshman year. The specifics regarding the nature of their injuries have not been revealed.

Riden's injury is particularly impactful, as he was anticipated to be a crucial goal-line running back. At 5 feet 10 inches and 220 pounds, he brought a physicality that the current roster may now lack. This situation raises concerns about the Aggies' capability to handle goal-line scenarios, leading to increased responsibilities for running backs Rueben Owens II and Jamarion Morrow.

In light of Riden's absence, true freshman KJ Edwards is expected to step up in the running back rotation. Although Owens and Morrow are likely to be the main options, Edwards is anticipated to receive significant playing time, which could influence the team's performance in key moments throughout the season.

Further information on how these injuries will affect the Aggies' overall strategy remains to be seen.
