DJ Lagway, a highly regarded quarterback, has transferred from Florida to Baylor following a challenging season with the Gators. Lagway, who was the No. 3 ranked player in his class when he arrived at Florida in 2024, took over as the starting quarterback after Graham Mertz's injury and led the team to a 5-1 record in the latter part of the season.
Despite high expectations for his sophomore year, Lagway faced difficulties, including injuries and a disappointing performance that contributed to Florida's 4-8 record. He threw for 2,264 yards with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions during the season, which ultimately led to the firing of head coach Billy Napier.
After entering the Transfer Portal, Lagway found a new opportunity at Baylor, where he will be under the guidance of head coach Dave Aranda. Lagway's first game with the Bears is set for Saturday against Auburn, a crucial matchup for both him and Aranda, especially after Baylor's lackluster 5-7 season last year.
Tim Tebow, a Florida football legend, expressed his support for Lagway's decision to transfer. On 'The Paul Finebaum Show', he stated that Lagway needed a new environment to thrive. Tebow noted that the pressure on Lagway at Florida was significant and that he did not receive enough support from his teammates during challenging times.
He believes that Lagway will perform better in a new setting and play with more joy.
