Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz could take on a larger role in the passing game if wide receiver Nico Collins is unavailable for the team’s Week 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Collins injured his hamstring during Wednesday’s practice, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. The Texans do not believe the injury is serious, but Collins’ availability for Sunday remains uncertain.
If Collins does not play, Schultz would be the Texans’ primary tight end option and could face less competition for targets. He finished the 2025 season as Houston’s receptions leader, recording 82 catches for 777 yards.
Schultz also had a prominent role when Collins missed part of last season. After Collins suffered a concussion against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7, Schultz led Houston with 10 targets and produced nine receptions for 98 yards.
The Texans’ receiving group could look different without Collins, although the source did not provide a final update on his Week 2 status.
