Late Rally Secures Victory

Ohio State controlled the early and middle portions of the game, building a commanding lead that appeared insurmountable until the final quarter. The Buckeyes opened scoring with a Connor Hawkins field goal, taking a 3-0 advantage. A Ja’Kobi Jackson run extended that lead to 10-0 before halftime.
Texas managed only three points in the first half via a Gianni Spetic field goal, trailing 10-3 at the break. Ohio State added to its margin with two more touchdowns, including a 19-yard pass from Julian Sayin to Jeremiah Smith and another field goal by Hawkins, pushing the score to 23-3 entering the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter Surge
The Longhorns’ offense ignited in the final period, driven by quarterback Arch Manning and running back Hollywood Smothers. Manning completed 23 of 37 passes for 195 yards and one touchdown, though he also threw one interception. His connection with Ryan Wingo on a 3-yard pass cut the deficit to 23-10.
Smothers became the catalyst for the comeback, rushing 21 times for 74 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. His first 1-yard run brought Texas within six points at 23-17. Smothers then scored again on a 1-yard run to complete the rally, giving Texas a 24-23 lead that held until the final whistle.
