A Defensive Masterclass

The Texas Tech Red Raiders secured their fifth straight win on Saturday, October 3, 2026, by dismantling the Colorado Buffaloes 29-7 at Folsom Field. While the final score reflected a lopsided contest, the game was defined by Texas Tech’s ability to capitalize on critical turnovers and maintain control despite a slow start.

The victory moves the Red Raiders to an undefeated 5-0 record, while the home team falls to 2-3.

Early Struggles and Third Quarter Shift

Colorado struck first, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime thanks to a strong offensive showing from quarterback Isaac Wilson. Wilson completed 26 of 44 passes for 290 yards and a touchdown, while also contributing 42 rushing yards on 17 carries.

His connection with Joseph Williams was pivotal early on; Williams hauled in 10 receptions for 93 yards, including an eight-yard touchdown pass that gave the Buffaloes the initial advantage. Stone Harrington provided the only points for Texas Tech in the first half, drilling a 52-yard field goal to cut the deficit.

The momentum shifted dramatically after the break. Texas Tech’s defense forced pivotal turnovers, allowing kicker Stone Harrington and the offense to take control. In the third quarter, Harrington added a 27-yard field goal to narrow the gap to 7-6 before Will Hammond connected with Terrance Carter Jr. on an 11-yard touchdown pass.

Although the subsequent two-point conversion failed, the play gave Tech a 12-7 lead. Colorado’s offense went silent in the second half, failing to score again.

Fourth Quarter Dominance

The Red Raiders pulled away decisively in the fourth quarter behind strong defensive plays and efficient scoring. John Curry ended his night with a 0-yard interception return for touchdown, extending the lead to 19-7 after Harrington’s extra point. The defense struck again when Quinten Joyner took a handoff for a 30-yard run, which was followed by another kick from Harrington to make it 29-7.

Statistical Standouts

While Colorado’s passing game generated significant yardage, turnovers proved costly. Isaac Wilson threw three interceptions, all of which were critical in shifting possession. For Texas Tech, Will Hammond managed the game efficiently, completing 17 of 26 passes for 134 yards and one touchdown.

The ground game was led by J’Koby Williams, who rushed 17 times for 88 yards. Terrance Carter Jr. was the primary target in the passing attack, recording eight receptions for 67 yards and a score. The final tally at Folsom Field, attended by 50,106 spectators, highlighted Texas Tech’s resilience and defensive prowess.
