Prosper's bill for Collin County animal services in the budget year that began Oct. 1 comes to $244,871 under two contracts placed on the county Commissioners Court's consent agenda for Monday afternoon.
The larger piece, $125,096, is the town's share of running the Collin County Animal Shelter. A second contract, an amendment that extends Prosper's animal control services agreement with the county for another year, sets the price for that service at $119,775.
Both cover Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027, according to county agenda memos, and the county lists both as revenue for its animal services fund.
How the shelter share is figured
A county billing sheet divides the shelter's costs among the cities and the county using 2026 population estimates from the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Prosper's estimate of 49,355 people works out to 5.91% of the 834,694 residents covered. That share produces:
- $111,626 toward operations
- $11,235 toward maintenance and capital costs
- a $2,236 charge the sheet labels a non-resident surcharge
Across all participants, the sheet totals $2,098,252. McKinney carries the largest share at $578,245, followed by Frisco at $551,122. A note on the sheet says Frisco will stop using the shelter after November 2028 and that its 2027 amount will differ from what is shown.
