Two North Texas organizations that work with people with disabilities say they want to turn employers' good intentions into actual job offers.
My Possibilities, a Plano nonprofit that runs continuing education and job programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the North Texas Disability Chamber have announced the North Texas Inclusive Employment Collaborative, Local Profile reported Monday.
How it is meant to work
The collaborative pairs My Possibilities' eMPloy Network, which already connects businesses with job seekers who have disabilities, with the chamber's ties to corporate members. Employers that join will be offered training programs, employer-only events, site visits and other ways to get involved, according to the announcement.
My Possibilities CEO Tod Marvin said a job means more than a paycheck to the people his organization serves, describing it as a matter of "purpose, independence" and being valued. He said the effort is meant to move employers "from interest to action."
Dylan M. Rafaty, president and CEO of the North Texas Disability Chamber, said the region has companies prepared to lead on disability inclusion and that the collaborative will give them a clearer way to learn and act.
