A narrow stretch of old county road running through the Mirabella development would be formally abandoned under an ordinance on the Prosper Town Council's consent agenda for Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The section of County Road 933 sits west of Custer Road and north of University Drive. According to the ordinance, it starts about 1,600 feet north of County Road 853 and runs north for about 3,700 feet.
Why the town says it is no longer needed
A memo from Development Services Director David Hoover says the strip is a prescriptive right-of-way, meaning the county built the road but the land beneath it was never transferred to the county. The ordinance adds that the property was never dedicated to the town.
The memo says the town has not maintained the road, that it averages about 10 feet wide and that it would not meet current road standards. The ordinance itself describes it as about 12 feet wide. Because the town does not own the land and has not kept up the road, staff assigned it no value, and the memo lists no budget impact.
Under the approved development plan, access to the property will come through Mirabella's internal streets and related road improvements, so the old roadway is not needed to reach the land, the memo says. The developer intends to build a trail for the subdivision's residents along the same area, according to the memo.
