Prosper neighborhoods planning a driveway cookout or park gathering on Tuesday evening may get some uniformed guests.

The town's National Night Out is Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. During those hours, the Prosper Police Department, Prosper Fire Rescue and town officials plan to visit neighborhood block parties around town, according to the police department's event page.

Before the visits start, residents are invited to an official send-off at 4:30 p.m. at the Prosper Police Station, 801 Safety Way.

The request deadline has passed

Neighborhoods that wanted a guaranteed stop from public safety crews and officials had to submit the town's National Night Out 2026 request form by Friday, Oct. 2. The town still encourages residents to host or join a gathering even without a scheduled visit. Questions go to Officer Erin Hubbard at ehubbard@prospertx.gov.

National Night Out is a yearly campaign built around police-community partnerships. In the town's description, the goal in Prosper is for neighbors to meet one another, swap contact information, agree to look out for each other and welcome public safety personnel into their neighborhoods.

Hosting tips from the town

The department's page offers suggestions for hosts:

  • Pick a secure spot such as a driveway or the neighborhood park, with enough room for police and fire vehicles to visit.
  • Plan food as a potluck, simple snacks or a hired food truck, and bring tents, tables and chairs.
  • Consider a movie night, inflatables, yard games, a bike, wagon or golf cart parade, or sidewalk chalk and water balloons for children.

One rule to note: blocking off a street, hiring food trucks or setting up a stage for entertainment requires a special event permit from the town.

National Night Out sits early in a busy October on the town's event calendar, which also includes the Mayor's Luncheon for Active Adults 55+ on Oct. 14 and a Tree Smarts program on Oct. 15.
