The recently launched series "Dutton Ranch," a sequel to "Yellowstone," was filmed entirely in North Texas between August 2025 and March 2026. The production utilized Dallas and several small towns to represent the fictional town of Rio Paloma. Locations included Ferris, Boyd, Cleburne, Grandview, Weatherford, Rio Vista, Mineral Wells, and Fort Worth.
Ferris, located about 18 miles southeast of downtown Dallas, played a substantial role in the filming. The ranch landscapes depicted in the series are primarily the grasslands and mesquite found in Parker, Wise, and Johnson counties, rather than the Rio Grande Valley that the storyline suggests.
The series premiered on May 15, 2026, with its first two episodes, and continued weekly for a total of nine episodes, concluding on July 3. It attracted 12.9 million global viewers in its opening week, marking the largest original series launch in Paramount+ history. The premiere also garnered 2.9 million viewers on Paramount Network, the highest for a cable series since 2023.
The cast features Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip, along with Finn Little, Ed Harris, Annette Bening, and others. "Dutton Ranch" has been renewed for a second season, although a premiere date has yet to be announced. Texas's Moving Image Industry Incentive Program contributed to the production's decision to film in the state, benefiting local businesses and crews.
