Walkers Heroic Finish
A home run by Kyle Walker in the 10th inning provided the decisive margin as the Houston Astros defeated the Seattle Mariners 10-7 on Saturday at Daikin Park. The win improved the Astros’ record to 63-60, while the Mariners fell to 57-66.
Early Scoring Exchange
The Mariners struck first in the top of the opening inning when Cal Raleigh singled to right field, allowing Jesse Winker to score for a 1-0 lead. Houston responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. Josh Naylor hit a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
Yuri Alvarez then homered to right field (368 feet) to give Houston a 2-1 advantage.
Seattle reclaimed the lead in the second inning. Cal Raleigh tripled to left, bringing Kyle Tucker home for a 2-2 tie. Luis Arraez singled to right, scoring Raleigh and putting Seattle ahead 3-2. Edouard Julien followed with an infield single that scored both Arraez and Tyler Wade, extending the Mariners’ lead to 5-2.
Astros Rally Back
The Astros began chipping away at the deficit in the sixth inning. Jose Altuve singled to left field, allowing Yordan Alvarez to score, making it 5-3. Houston tied the game in the eighth inning when Alex Bregman grounded out to shortstop, scoring Jeremy Peña. Michael Brantley then hit a ground-rule double to left field, bringing Jeremy Pena home and tying the contest at 5-5.
