A dual-brand Hilton hotel is officially coming to Prosper. The Town Council cleared the project's final approvals at its July 14 meeting, adopting an ordinance for the specific use permit and authorizing a development agreement between the town and the developer, Peach Tree Group of Investment Inc., according to the council's agenda. Star Local Media first reported the approvals.
The project combines two Hilton brands under one roof: a Hilton Garden Inn with about 100 full-service rooms and a Homewood Suites by Hilton with about 94 extended-stay rooms, for 194 rooms in a single building of roughly 37,750 square feet, according to town planning documents.
The two brands would keep separate breakfast areas but share the building's other amenities, which are planned to include a full-service restaurant, a sports court and at least 10,000 square feet of event and meeting space.
The hotel will sit on about 5.9 acres on the east side of Mahard Parkway, roughly 480 feet south of Prairie Drive, placing it near the intersection of US 380 and the Dallas North Tollway, one of the busiest commercial corridors in this fast-growing corner of Collin County.
The extended-stay half of the project is what made the approval a longer road than most. Full-service hotels are permitted in Prosper by right, but extended-stay hotels require a specific use permit from the town.
The Planning and Zoning Commission initially recommended denying the permit this spring amid concerns about the extended-stay component, then reversed course and voted 4-1 in favor after hearing a presentation from the project's representatives.
