Prosper ISD is adding one middle school for the 2026-27 school year and postponing the opening of another campus to students. Jim Bridges Middle School is opening in Celina, in the area of Custer Road and Frontier Parkway.
The district expects about 700 students at Jim Bridges Middle School when it begins. The campus is intended to ease crowding at Jones Middle School and Rogers Middle School.
Watkins Middle School had been planned to open to students this fall, but Prosper ISD has moved that opening to 2027. The district made the change after homebuilding and expected enrollment growth slowed.
The Watkins building has been completed, but it will be used for district support services before students attend there. That temporary use allows the district to avoid running and staffing a full campus before enrollment reaches the level needed for it.
Across North Texas, districts are taking different approaches as the school year begins. Northwest, Prosper, Celina and Argyle ISDs are opening campuses, while Fort Worth, Frisco, McKinney and Grapevine-Colleyville ISDs are starting with fewer schools after consolidating or changing how campuses are used. Denton ISD is adding capacity in some areas while repurposing an elementary school where enrollment patterns have shifted.
