Baylor University head coach Dave Aranda has announced that quarterback DJ Lagway is considered day-to-day as he recovers from an ankle injury. The team's decision regarding Lagway's availability for the upcoming game against Prairie View A&M will depend on his performance during practice this week.
In his debut with Baylor, Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, contributing two touchdowns and one interception in a narrow 17-16 loss to Auburn. The Bears attempted a two-point conversion at the end of the game but were unable to secure the win.
Auburn head coach Alex Golesh praised Lagway's resilience, noting his toughness in continuing to play despite the injury. Golesh expressed confidence in Baylor's potential within the Big 12 conference, highlighting Lagway's determination as a key factor in the team's performance.
Lagway transferred to Baylor after spending two seasons at the University of Florida, where he was initially seen as a promising quarterback. He started under head coach Billy Napier but entered the transfer portal following Napier's dismissal. During his time at Florida, Lagway faced challenges, including injuries and a difficult season that ended with the Gators finishing at 4-8.
Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, commented on Lagway's situation, suggesting that the pressure he faced in Gainesville may have hindered his performance. Tebow believes that a fresh start at Baylor could allow Lagway to thrive and play with more confidence and joy.
