The Houston Texans have made significant changes to their practice squad, signing former Vikings center Gavin Gerhardt and releasing rookie defensive tackle Dominic Bailey. This move was necessary to accommodate new quarterback Mark Gronowski on the practice squad.

On September 8, KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported that Bailey was let go as the Texans reached the NFL roster limit, which also includes international offensive tackle Max Pircher. The Texans confirmed the addition of Gerhardt and Gronowski through their official website, while also announcing the release of Bailey and Ka’ena De Cambra.

Bailey's release is particularly notable as he was previously cut from the team during the roster reduction to 53 players but was later brought back to the practice squad. His departure marks another shift in the Texans' roster dynamics.

Gerhardt, a seventh-round draft pick in 2026, has been recognized for his leadership and football intelligence. Although untested at the NFL level, he was valued by the Vikings for his ability to understand protection schemes and maintain positioning against defenders. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein highlighted Gerhardt's potential as a center-only prospect, emphasizing his skills in blocking and awareness on the field.

The Texans now look to develop Gerhardt further, as he joins a group that includes starting center Evan Brown and 2025 starter Jake Andrews, with rookie first-round pick Keylan Rutledge also in the mix. The team's coaching staff aims to maximize Gerhardt's abilities to enhance their offensive line performance.
