The No. 5 Texas Longhorns asserted their dominance on Saturday, September 5, by defeating the Texas State Bobcats 59-7 in the season opener at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. The home team controlled the pace of the game from the opening whistle, building a substantial lead that proved insurmountable for the visiting Bobcats.
The final score reflected a comprehensive victory for Texas, who improved their record to 1-0, while Texas State fell to 0-1. The large crowd of 102,738 witnessed a display of offensive firepower that left little room for doubt regarding the outcome.
Early Momentum Shift
Texas struck quickly in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns to establish a 14-0 lead. Manning’s Command
Arch Manning was the central figure in the Longhorns’ offensive success, completing 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. On the other side of the ball, Ryan Wingo led the receiving corps with seven catches for 121 yards and one touchdown. The Bobcats’ offense struggled to gain consistent traction, with Brad Jackson completing 15 of 23 passes for 150 yards and Jaylen Jenkins rushing for 34 yards on six attempts.
Closing Out the Game
Texas continued its scoring barrage in the third quarter, adding three more touchdowns to pull away decisively. Cam Coleman caught a 20-yard pass from Manning, followed by Hollywood Smothers on a 13-yard reception and Raleek Brown on a 21-yard run. The Longhorns capped the third period with a 48-yard field goal by Gianni Spetic.
