The Sacramento Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers 8-3 on Saturday at Sutter Health Park, capping a performance where their offense exploded in the late innings to secure the win. The home team took an early lead in the first inning, but the decisive momentum shift came as the game progressed into the sixth and seventh frames.
The Rangers struck first in the top of the first inning. With two runners on base, Cortes doubled to right field, driving in Gelof, Wilson, and Soderstrom to give Texas a 3-0 lead. The Athletics responded immediately in the bottom of the first, though the score remained tied at 3-3 entering the sixth inning.
The balance of power shifted dramatically in the sixth, where the Rangers' offense stalled, allowing Sacramento to begin their offensive surge.
In the sixth inning, Burger homered to center field, a shot that traveled 428 feet, scoring Seager and Duran to tie the game at 3-3. McNeil followed with a solo home run to right field, covering 400 feet, to give the Athletics a 4-3 lead.
The momentum continued into the seventh inning when Butler hit a 411-foot home run to center field, extending the Sacramento advantage to 5-3. The Rangers managed to score one run in the eighth inning, but the Athletics answered with two runs to close the game. McNeil doubled to right field, scoring Bolte and Heim, to make the final score 8-3.
