Both of the state representatives whose districts cover Prosper came out ahead in Tuesday's election, one comfortably and one by about 2,800 votes, according to unofficial county returns.
About four of every five Prosper residents live in Texas House District 66, a Collin County seat, and the rest are in District 106 on the Denton County side of town, based on 2020 census figures the Texas Legislative Council compiled for the current House map.
District 66
Republican state Rep. Matt Shaheen won District 66 with 47,373 votes (55.45%) to 38,059 (44.55%) for Democrat Sandeep Srivastava. Collin's unofficial tally, with a 1:02 a.m. time stamp, had results in from all 90 vote centers, and the district does not extend into Denton County.
Besides most of Prosper, District 66 takes in about a third of Frisco, nearly half of Celina and part of Plano, the council's report shows.
District 106
Republican state Rep. Jared Patterson led Democrat Joe Mayes 47,082 to 44,267, or 51.54% to 48.46%, in Denton County's returns as of 1:40 a.m., which had 60 of the district's 64 precincts counted. That is a gap of 2,815 votes.
District 106 lies in Denton County and covers about 21% of Prosper's population, along with about 40% of Frisco and smaller pieces of Celina and Little Elm. All of Aubrey is in it as well.
Shaheen and Patterson are the sitting representatives for the two districts, according to the Texas House website.
