Prosper, Texas — Texas reached a new high for total employment in June, setting a record that state leaders say reflects continued economic expansion.

The Texas Workforce Commission reported that total nonfarm jobs rose to 14,469,600 in June, a gain of 43,400 positions during the month. Over the trailing 12 months, the state added 177,900 jobs and grew faster than the nation as a whole.

Texans working, including those who are self-employed, numbered 15,203,600, while the state labor force stood at 15,904,900, up about 29,700 people over the year. Governor Greg Abbott pointed to the figures as evidence that the state's business climate and workforce are drawing people and investment.

In a separate announcement this week, the Governor said autonomous-vessel maker Saronic Technologies will build a major shipyard at the Port of Brownsville, a project valued at roughly $3.2 billion that is expected to create about 10,000 jobs. State officials have cited such investments as a reason Texas continues to lead the country in business relocation and population growth.

Collin And Denton Counties is home to workers and employers who benefit when the state's job market and business climate stay strong.

The new employment total marks the latest in a series of record-setting labor-market readings the state has posted during the current economic cycle.
