Avelo Airlines will offer nonstop flights to nine cities from McKinney National Airport, with four routes beginning in December. McKinney is about 11 miles east of Prosper. The airport's new passenger terminal remains on schedule to open Nov. 11, the city announced Sept. 24.

Service begins with Fort Myers on Nov. 11, followed by Las Vegas and Orlando on Nov. 12, then Tampa and Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 19. Atlanta and Denver service starts Dec. 16, with four weekly flights each on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Nashville and New Orleans begin Dec. 17, with flights on Thursday and Sunday, two times each week.

The Houston-based airline plans to station three 184-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the airport, which is listed as DTX in booking systems. Operations will run Wednesday through Monday, with no Tuesday flights. The city expects more than 100 jobs, including pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians, ground-handling workers and customer service employees.

Ignacio Flores of the FAA's Southwest Region presented the airport's operating certificate to Aviation Director Ken Carley. In May 2023, 58.69% of McKinney voters rejected a $200 million airport bond. The City Council later chose sales-tax funding and approved $58 million in construction contracts in May 2025 by a 4-2 vote.
