A North Texas woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following her conviction for murder in the death of her infant child. The incident occurred in Frisco, a community located approximately 6 miles south of Prosper.
Frisco police identified the defendant as 27-year-old Vanessa Esquivel. Investigators stated that in August, Esquivel left her 15-month-old child inside a parked vehicle outside her place of employment. Authorities noted that the car lacked functioning air conditioning during the incident.
According to police reports, the child remained in the vehicle for more than two hours. During that time, outside temperatures reached at least 95 degrees. Investigators linked these conditions directly to the child's death.
Esquivel faced trial for her role in the tragedy. A jury found her guilty of murder based on the evidence presented. The court then handed down the 25-year prison term.
