After more than two months without measurable precipitation, storms arrived in North Texas on Sunday night, bringing relief to dry landscapes but causing damage for some residents. The rain began shortly before 9 p.m., drawing neighbors outside to observe the weather event as the region approached 70 days without significant rainfall.
In Prosper, a lightning strike hit near Tye Vilhauer’s residence, startling people in the area and damaging several properties. The bolt struck the attic of a neighbor’s home located off Hubbard Park Lane, forcing that family to evacuate immediately. Vilhauer noted that the initial shock was followed by visible smoke and the smell of burning material within minutes.
Vilhauer described the immediate aftermath, stating that the power went out and the loud bass from the strike frightened him and his wife. He reported that approximately 40 to 50 community members arrived at the scene within 15 minutes to assist the affected family.
Prosper Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame responded to the incident, describing the loss of a home and its contents as devastating. While crews were handling the first call, they received another report just a few miles east off Meadow Run Drive. Upon arrival at that second location, firefighters found the entire attic engulfed in flames.
