Avelo Airlines has announced plans to launch commercial passenger service at McKinney National Airport, with the first flights scheduled to depart on November 11. The carrier will operate nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa. McKinney is located approximately 11 miles east of Prosper.

The airline, which describes itself as the launch and anchor carrier for the facility, stated that the new operations are expected to generate more than 100 jobs. To attract passengers, Avelo is offering introductory one-way fares beginning at $99. Additionally, travelers who complete their bookings through the airline before August will receive their first checked bag at no cost.

Andrew Levy, the founder and chief executive officer of Avelo Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. He noted that the airline was designed to provide low fares and reliable scheduling, highlighting the convenience of using the McKinney facility as a key benefit for customers.

Local officials have welcomed the announcement. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox thanked the airline for its confidence in the regional market and for choosing to invest in the airport. He emphasized that the new service would provide exciting new travel options for residents.

Ken Carley, the director of McKinney National Airport, stated that travelers can look forward to new developments that save both time and money. He described the airline as committed to serving the community's travel needs.

Avelo Airlines began operations in 2021 and is recognized as the first new commercial airline in the United States in 15 years at that time. The carrier currently serves 37 destinations across 15 states, along with two locations in Puerto Rico. McKinney National Airport has been in operation since 1979.

Details regarding the specific aircraft types to be used for these routes or the exact number of daily flights were not provided in the announcement.
